The Fishy Prophet
A verse by verse study on the Biblical Book of Jonah.
There’s a lot to learn from the tiny, four chapter book of a man in rebellion against the calling of an Almighty God. Learn them and make your walk stronger for the that same Almighty God.

I borrowed this book from a friend of Pastor Doug, a signed copy that my friend cherishes and that I feared damaging in some way as I read it voraciously. After discerning its enormous value, I decided to buy my own copy. In my opinion, this book is more helpful that anything else I have ever encountered regarding one's calling, one's ministry--including an interactive online retreat by the Henri Nouwen Society and a retreat by Sr. Joan Chittister at monasteriesoftheheart.org..
The Scripture references are extraordinarily helpful, especially the references to the ways in which God makes known one's calling and the universal signs or marks that give reassurance of its authenticity and manageability. One of these signs is the promise that one will be given all s/he needs to accomplish the ministry in question.
There are no words to describe how this book has helped me in executing my own current calling, a writing assignment that I had felt to be so overwhelming that some mistake must surely have occurred!
P.S. I live in Doug's neck of the woods, have heard him preach (with a rare gift of humor), and am familiar with his charitable ministries. This is a man who walks his talk.
